Vault of Midnight is thrilled to team up with The University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor District Library to present Marching Forward, a series of events tied to Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell’s visit to Ann Arbor on September 21st. Together, these three assembled one of the most powerful and celebrated graphic novels in recent memory with March, a three-part autobiography of the legendary civil rights leader and congressman John Lewis.
Vault of Midnight will be hosting artist Nate Powell on Wednesday, Sep. 20th at 7pm for a book signing. Besides his groundbreaking and lauded work on the March trilogy, Powell is an Ignatz and Eisner award winning graphic novelist whose book Swallow Me Whole took the industry by storm in 2008 and was a finalist for the Los Angeles Book Prize.
Vault of Midnight is proud to host a roster of creators featured at Detroit’s own MECCAcon. The phenomenal writers and artists will be posting up at Vault of Midnight Detroit for an evening of signings, chats, knowledge, comic-talk on Friday, September 16, 2016.
MECCAcon is the Midwest Ethnic Convention for Comics and Arts, focused on celebrating culturally diverse creators, characters, and art of every distinction. Maia Crown Williams, CEO and Founder of MECCAcon has said that “it is my mission to make sure that children know that all “heroes” do not look the same, that many actually look just like them.” MECCAcon is the Midwest’s largest ethnic comic book convention, and we’re so excited to be a part of it this year.

Jeremy Bastian, author and artist of Cursed Pirate Girl, will be doing an in store signing at Vault of Midnight on Saturday December 19th from 6pm – 8pm.
Guest: Gene Luen Yang
Cartoonist Gene Luen Yang will visit both Vault of Midnight locations for signings and to promote his new book Secret Coders on Sunday, October 4, 2015!
Yang is one of the most celebrated comic book creators of his generation, and was the first graphic novelist to be nominated for the National Book Award for his 2006 book American Born Chinese. That work would go on to win the American Library Association’s Printz Award (the first graphic novel to receive that honor) as well as an Eisner Award (the comic industry’s most prestigious commendation).
In addition to a slew of other original graphic novels including Boxers and Saints, Level Up, and The Shadow Hero, Yang is additionally and currently the writer for DC Comics’ Superman as well as the Dark Horse Comics’ Avatar: The Last Airbender, which sequels the television show.
Gene will be signing in the Ann Arbor Location on October 4th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, and in the Grand Rapids location from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Vault of Midnight has worked hard to make sure that Yang’s collected works will be available building up to and during his appearances.
This is sure to be an amazing opportunity to meet one of the world’s most renowned comic creators!

The Kids Read Comics Celebration is a totally free event that unites kids, teens, parents, teachers and librarians with professional artists and writers from the comics and animation fields. Our goal is to introduce kids to worlds of imagination while unlocking their creative impulses, and to serve that goal, the convention features:
– hands-on workshops
– panels and presentations for kids, families, and educators
– a chance for kids to meet and chat with comics and animation professionals
– the opportunity for kids to have their own art portfolios reviewed
Our celebration will be held at the Ann Arbor District Library in downtown Ann Arbor, which will host an artist alley and tons of hands-on workshops!

March 22 marks the twentieth anniversary of Mike Mignola's career-defining release of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1. After the character's somewhat humble beginnings in an eight-page feature in Dark Horse's San Diego Comic-Con Comics special, Seed of Destruction would begin the long life of the beloved "beast of the apocalypse."
In December, Dark Horse declared that March 22, 2014, would be Hellboy Day, with events happening in comic shops around the world!
