March 11, 2017: Beyond Watchmen & Judge Dredd Signing

Artist John Higgins launches his new book – and art exhibition – Beyond Watchmen & Judge Dredd, at Forbidden Planet’s Liverpool store at 1:00pm on Saturday 11th March. John Higgins has been the artist or colourist on some of the most iconic comic books of recent years. Here, collected together for the first time, is the best of Higgins breathtaking work. Alongside never before seen preliminary drawings of now iconic characters, the book includes insights into the career of the comic book artist.

Beyond Watchmen & Judge Dredd is not just a comprehensive overview of Higgin’s work – it is also an indispensable instruction manual on drawing and colouring technique.

John Higgins is an acclaimed graphic artist, writer and publisher. A frequent collaborator with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, his work includes Batman: The Killing Joke, Watchmen, Judge Dredd, Before Watchmen, and Razorjack.

This signing is part of the launch of first major retrospective of the work of Liverpool-born artist, who found global success as a comic book artist and writer for 2000AD, DC and Marvel, running at Victoria Gallery & Museum within Liverpool University.

The exhibition will feature his original art displayed alongside examples of the work of the artists and science fiction classics that inspired him.

Beyond Dredd & Watchmen: The Art of John Higgins opens on Friday, 10 March 2017 and runs until October 2017.

Oct. 4, 2015: Jupiter’s Circle Signing

Mark Millar will be signing copies of Chrononauts Volume 1 and Jupiter’s Circle Volume 1 – both available as exclusive Forbidden Planet variants – at the Liverpool store on Sunday 4th October at 2:00pm.

Mark Millar is the award-winning writer/ creator of Wanted and Kick-Ass and worked as an executive producer on their subsequent movie adaptations. He is also the Creative Consultant for Twentieth Century Fox in Los Angeles, overseeing their upcoming Marvel movies. His ten years at Marvel produced Civil War, the biggest-selling series of the decade, and The Ultimates, credited by screen-writer Zak Penn as his inspiration for The Avengers movie. His Millarworld company has expanded in the last few years to include Kick-Ass 2, Hit-Girl, The Secret Service, Nemesis, War Heroes, American Jesus, Supercrooks and Superior. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Glasgow Caledonia University for his services to film and literature.

The Phaeron disappeared from the universe over a million years ago. They travelled among the stars using roads made from time and space, but left only relics behind.

But what actually happened to the Phaeron? Some believe they were they eradicated by a superior force. Others claim they destroyed themselves. Or were they in fact the victims of an even more hideous fate?

In the far future, humans discover the location of the last Phaeron road – and the Doctor and Clara join the mission
to see where the road leads. Each member of the research team knows exactly what they are looking for – but only the Doctor knows exactly what they’ll find. Because only the Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a monstrous secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in thedeepest grave imaginable.

Trevor Baxendale has written both Doctor Who and Torchwood novels for BBC Books, including Eater of Wasps, The Undertaker’s Gift and the award-winning Prisoner of the Daleks. His novel Fear of the Dark was reprinted in 2013 as part of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. He has also written scripts for Big Finish’s Doctor Who, Robin Hood and Highlander audio plays, and most recently the full cast audio drama Blake’s 7: Scimitar. His Blake’s 7 novel, Criminal Intent, was published in November 2014.
