Nicholas Briggs will be signing THE NINTH DOCTOR CHRONICLES at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Thursday 3rd August from 6 – 7pm.

Narrated by Nicholas Briggs, THE NINTH DOCTOR CHRONICLES features four new stories from the Ninth Doctor’s era:

The Bleeding Heart by Cavan Scott

Galen is a place where people come to heal. The renowned ‘planet of peace’ seems the ideal venue for talks between two warring races. But when death disrupts the diplomacy, Cosmic Nine news reporter Adriana Jarsdel uncovers a different story. Luckily, someone is there to help. A battle-weary veteran from another war. The Doctor has come to Galen – but is he looking for peace, or something else entirely?

The Window on the Moor by Una McCormack

Emily and her sisters once told each other fables of warring kingdoms: wicked princes, noble dukes, and their battling armies. Now she wanders the moors of her childhood alone, remembering those tales. The TARDIS arrives amid a strange civil war, with prisons made of glass and cities stalked by terrifying beasts. As windows open between worlds, stories and storyteller meet, and Rose comes face to face with Emily Brontë.

The Other Side by Scott Handcock

Rose has invited a new friend on board the TARDIS, against the Doctor’s better judgement. But when the Time Lord tries to take his unwelcome guest home, a temporal tsunami cuts the journey short. The travellers find the source of the disturbance inside an abandoned cinema. Will Adam Mitchell help or hinder when the Doctor and Rose discover what is lurking on the other side of the screen?

Retail Therapy by James Goss

Jackie Tyler is a success. Every home should have a Glubby Glub, and Jackie is star saleswoman on the Powell Estate. At last, she’s found her calling and it’s only a matter of time before she can give Rose the life she deserves. But the Doctor isn’t impressed. Jackie Tyler isn’t just filling peoples’ houses with useless clutter. He believes she’s launching an alien invasion…

Thurma is a young Fireling tasked with stealing a shard of the Dark Crystal to restore power to her realm. Along the way she’ll befriend the young Gelfling Kensho, bring back the Skeksis and Mystics, and embark on one incredible adventure.

Yet, for the extras and actors in smaller roles, their faces hidden behind masks and beneath helmets, this seemingly insignificant job would go on to colour their lives even four decades later.

Documentary filmmaker Jon Spira has tracked down a cross-section of these actors and extras, including David Prowse (Darth Vader) and Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), to find out what it means to have been a part of the most beloved cinematic universe of all time.

But what’s his secret?

Matthew Rosenberg was born and raised in New York City. The son, nephew, and brother of writers, he naturally spent the first 10 years of his professional life trying to avoid the same fate as them. After years of directing music videos, managing a print shop, touring the world managing bands, working at a comic shop, and co-owning a small indie record label, the fates have finally left him two choices; write comics professionally or starve to death trying. Small Gods Signing
Aug. 6, 2016

Guest: Ray Friesen

Ray Friesen will be signing Small Gods: The Discworld Graphic Novel at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Saturday 6th August from 4 – 5pm.

‘Just because you can’t explain it, doesn’t mean it’s a miracle.’

In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was: ‘Hey, you!’ This is the Discworld, after all, and religion is a controversial business. Everyone has their own opinion, and indeed their own gods, of every shape and size, and all elbowing for space at the top. In such a competitive environment, it’s certainly not helpful to be reduced to
appearing in the form of a tortoise, a manifestation far below god-like status in anyone’s book.

In such instances, you need an acolyte, and fast: for the Great God Om, Brutha the novice is the Chosen One – or at least the only One available. He wants peace and justice and brotherly love. He also wants the Inquisition to stop torturing him now, please…

The bestselling novel by Terry Pratchett now adapted into graphic novel form with new artwork by Ray Friesen.

Ray Friesen, like Sir Terry, has facial hair and a penchant for hats, although he claims that this is a coincidence. Ray was nominated for the Ignatz Award for Most Promising New Talent during his first year of cartooning professionally.

STEVE LYONS and ANDY LANE will be signing DOCTOR WHO: THE LEGENDS OF RIVER SONG at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Saturday 11th June from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.

‘Hello sweetie!’

With those words, the indomitable River Song crashed into the Doctor’s life, and has stayed there ever since. Archaeologist, time-traveller, thief, and murderer, River Song has had more adventures (and got into much more trouble) than most other people in the universe. And she’s written a lot of it down. Well, when you’re (possibly) married to a Time Lord, it’s important to keep track of what you’ve done and when. Especially as it may not have happened to both of you yet. Sometimes she’s with the Doctor, and sometimes she’s on her own. But wherever and whenever she may be, she’s never far from danger… and excitement!

Steve Lyons has written nearly twenty novels, several audio dramas and many short stories, starring characters from the X-Men and Spider-Man to the Tomorrow People and Sapphire & Steel. He has also co-written a number of books about TV shows, including Cunning: The Blackadder Programme Guide and the bestselling Red Dwarf Programme Guide. His previous Doctor Who work includes the novels Conundrum, The Witch Hunters and The Crooked World, audio dramas The Fires of Vulcan and Colditz, and work for the official Doctor Who Magazine.

Andrew Lane has written more than 30 books in various genres – fiction and non-fiction, adult and Young Adult, crime and science fiction. Most recently he has been responsible for the internationally successful Young Sherlock Holmes series of novels, while the first book in his new Crusoe series will be published this year. His first novel was a licensed Doctor Who book – the Seventh Doctor novel Lucifer Rising – and he also writes Doctor Who audio dramas for Big Finish Productions.

It looks like the game is afoot…

And in This Damned Band, the biggest rock band in the world thought they were only pretending to worship Satan. As they record the documentary of what might be their final world tour, they discover the horrifying truth!

Paul Cornell has been Hugo-nominated for his work in TV, comics and prose, and is a BSFA award-winner for short fiction. Do we even want it? Is there a place for humanity in a world of gods? Gaiman and Buckingham delve into the lives of lonely idealists, rebellious schoolchildren and fracturing families, exploring the human constant in a changing world of gods and miracles.

For My Eyes Only Signing
Oct. 31, 2015

Director John Glen signs his memoir For My Eyes Only at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore at 1:00pm on Saturday 31st October.

John Glen’s James Bond movies include some of the most acclaimed entries in the entire series. Glen has directed George Lazenby, Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton, and in 1986 supervised Pierce Brosnan’s initial screen test. Glen remains best known, however, for the memorable stunts that became a trademark of his films.

In this candid and detailed memoir, Glen takes the reader inside the world of action filmmaking, revealing the secrets behind some of the most popular movies ever made. The book is illustrated with many rare behind the scenes stills and storyboard illustrations.

John Glen’s association with the James Bond films began in 1969, when he worked on the classic On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He returned to edit and second unit direct The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979), before assuming directorial control of the series throughout the 1980s. Glen directed five consecutive Bond movies – For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), A View to a Kill (1985), The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989), a record that has never been matched.

Carole is Professor of English and Director of Creative Studies in Writing at Alverno College in Milwaukee. She writes a monthly crime fiction column and regular reviews and features for newspapers. She contributed a chapter to the Hugo award-winning non-fiction anthology Chicks Dig Time Lords. DMC #1 Signing
Jan. 20, 2015

Guest: Darryl McDaniels

Hip-hop legend Darryl McDaniels signs DMC #1 at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Tuesday 20th January from 6:00 – 7:00 PM!

It’s 1985 in New York City. Wildstyle graffiti covers subway cars as B-boys break and spin in playgrounds and on street corners. Koch is mayor. Drugs and crime rule the streets. A terrifying plague is brewing in the shadows. And as the populace loses faith in the police, a man named Bernard Goetz is being hailed as a hero for shooting four teenagers in a subway car. In this 1985, however, the city’s brand new guardian angels wear spandex and capes, wielding their gadgets and their superpowers to clean up the City – even if their methods hurt more people than they help. There’s the deluded ‘graffiti king’ Mr. Marx patrolling the tunnels; the dark moral crusader The Puritan who stalks the shadows of the Lower East Side; and above it all, the godlike Helios, darling of the Upper East Side and the NYPD. It seems like only some of New York’s residents are benefitting from these vigilantes’ protection. The rest whisper the name of another hero: DMC.
You see, in this 1985, Darryl McDaniels (Run DMC) never rocks the mic to become one of hip-hop’s most enduring icons. Instead, he dons his tracksuit and Adidas sneakers to defend the city’s marginalized citizens against super villain and hero alike, leaving no traces besides the imprint of his knuckle rings on his opponents’ faces. (By day, though, he teaches junior high school English.) With the help of reporter Charlie Cooper and a band of graffiti artists led by the spunky Lak6, DMC must confront the new ‘heroes,’ and investigate whether there’s anything behind their sudden appearance.

DMC, the inaugural title from Darryl Makes Comics, imagines an alternate history that blends traditional comic book storytelling with the pressures and anxieties of 1980’s NYC, and explores how we got to where we are now. DMC is a superhero for those who need one most.

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

World War Z. It began with rumours from China about another pandemic. Then the cases started to multiply and what had looked like the stirrings of a criminal underclass, even the beginnings of a revolution, soon revealed itself to be much, much worse. Faced with a future of mindless, man-eating horror, humanity was forced to accept the logic of world government and face events that tested our sanity and our sense of reality. Based on extensive interviews with survivors and key players in the 10-year fight-back against the horde, WORLD WAR Z brings the very finest traditions of American journalism to bear on what is surely the most incredible story in the history of civilisation.

The son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, Max is a bestselling author for his debut book The Zombie Survival Guide, providing the public at large with day-to-day tips to stay ahead of the undead. He is also a former writer for Saturday Night Live and was part of the team for the highly respected Michael Palin travel series for the BBC. After a murder, he’s hounded out of Hooverville by a vigilante group and find refuge in a mysterious house. It gives him access to different times and also offers him a vision – of his ‘shining girls’, women across time who are to become his murder victims. He visits them as children, then as teenagers, then as adults, when he will kill them and leave anachronistic clues on their bodies.

Meet Robert 'Kryten' Llewellyn at Forbidden Planet!
March 2, 2013

ROBERT LLEWELLYN will be revealing all – even the really embarrassing bits – in THE MAN IN THE RUBBER MASK, this completely updated inside story of RED DWARF. He’ll also be signing it at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Saturday 2nd March 1 – 2pm.

It was 1989 when Robert Llewellyn first had his head encased in the one-piece latex foam-rubber balaclava that was Kryten, and it gave him a distinctly funny turn.

Gazing at his own reflection and seeing the face of a robot staring back was surprisingly scary, not to mention sweaty. And he couldn’t even eat his lunch
. Since then, he has sweated, frozen, been set on fire, exploded, spent thousands of hours in the make-up chair and thousands more being taunted by Craig Charles. So it is a testament to the joyful camaraderie and life-enhancing silliness of Red Dwarf that 23 years later, Robert was still willing to risk life, limb and hairline to don the rubber torture helmet for Red Dwarf X, the triumphant return of the motley band of space bums.

Robert Llewellyn is an actor, novelist, screenwriter, comedian and TV presenter. As well as starring in Red Dwarf he has presented Scrapheap Challenge, How Do They Do It? and his own online show, Carpool. He is the author of five novels, including News from Gardenia published by Unbound. He writes under a rack of solar panels in Gloucestershire.

A department that if you did describe it to most people would get you laughed at. And then there's his love life. The last person he fell for ended up seriously dead. It wasn't his fault, but still.

Now something horrible is happening in the labyrinth of tunnels that make up the tube system that honeycombs the ancient foundations of London. And delays on the Northern line is the very least of it. Time to call in the Met's Economic and Specialist Crime Unit 9, aka 'The Folly'. Time to call in PC Peter Grant, Britain’s Last Wizard.

Ben Aaronovitch was born and raised in London and all his work has reflected his abiding fascination and love for what he modestly likes to refer to as the 'Capital of the World'.

Mike Carey signing The Unwritten
Dec. 6, 2011

MIKE CAREY will be signing The Unwritten Vol 4 at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Tuesday 6th December 6 – 7pm.

Tom Taylor's father created the Tommy Taylor fantasy series, boy-wizard novels with popularity on par with Harry Potter. The problem: Dad modeled the fictional epic so closely to Tom's real life that fans are constantly comparing him to his counterpart. In Volume 4, after the shocking return of Tommy’s father, the mysterious Cabal audition a new assassin and Tom seeks out the source. The source of what? He’s not really sure, but it looks like a whale, and apparently it can be found in the Nantucket farmhouse where Moby Dick was written. What he finds is a path into a whole different ocean, with more trouble (and more whales) than he could possibly imagine.

Mike Carey’s work in has encompassed everything from a biographical comic of Ozzy Osbourne to the astounding and Eisner Award-nominated Lucifer. The list of credits and titles to his name is as sparkling as it is long – and the publication of his Felix Castor series of novels have proved that he can move format without losing his insight, skill or passion. Mike has a first-class degree in English from Oxford and pre-dated his illustrious comics career with 15 years as a teacher.
