Aug. 16, 2014: Thief of Thieves Signing

Artist Shawn Martinbrough, known for his acclaimed two-year run illustrating Batman in Detective Comics with writer Greg Rucka and his current best selling work on Thief of Thieves with writer Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, will appear at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum (GEM) on Saturday, August 16, 2014, in two sessions from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., he will give a talk about how he developed his craft and discuss his career in the comics industry. That session will conclude with a question-and-answer period. Then from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. he will be signing in the museum’s gift shop, Geppi’s Comic World. Admission for the talk is free with paid admission for non-museum members and free for museum members, however, reservations are recommended as seating is limited. Admission for the signing in the store is free to all.

Martinbrough’s work, as well as that of many other creators, is currently on display at GEM as part of the widely lauded exhibit Milestones: African Americans in Comics, Pop Culture and Beyond, which runs through December 31, 2014. Among numerous projects, he has garnered praise for his Detective Comics work with Rucka, during which he co-created characters that were featured in the Batman: Gotham Knights animated DVD as a companion to director Christopher Nolan’s trilogy of Batman films.

Clearing out the attic, rummaging through boxes, rearranging the mantle, have you stumbled across a pop culture relic that you are now wondering what value it may hold? Geppi’s Entertainment Museum can help! On Saturday, August 18th from 10 am to 5 pm Geppi’s Entertainment Museum is hosting the Hake’s Americana & Collectibles Appraisal Fair.

Hake’s Americana & Collectibles is one of America’s premier auction houses and has been setting the standard for quality collectibles and customer service in the world of popular culture collectibles since 1967.

Founder Ted Hake, general manager Alex Winter and the staff of Hake’s will be at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum to look over your pop culture artifacts and advise you on their value. Depending on the artifact, they may even offer to consign the object to an upcoming auction!

Tickets are available at $20 for non-members and $15 for members and include an appraisal of one artifact*, a copy of the museum book Pop Culture with Character and admission to Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.

* Due to the popularity of this event and the limited number of tickets no refunds will be given for artifacts that do not fit the guidelines for this event. Hake’s Americana & Collectibles specialize in pop culture artifacts. In order to have your object appraised it must follow the guidelines below.

The object must be from the 1970s or earlier

Objects must be related to cinema, music, comics, politicians, etc (list growing)

No objects from the 1980s or later

No limited edition items

Items should be small enough to be carried one person for an extended period of time.

This is a limited space event, so tickets will be sold on a first come first serve bases. Everyone who purchases a ticket to this event will be allowed to bring ONE artifact to be appraised. Artifacts must adhere to the guidelines or they will not be appraised.
